Dr. Richard J. Restifo’s training, experience and accolades make him one of the most sought after plastic and reconstructive surgeons of the breast and body. His specialties are aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, breast augmentation, breast lift, abdominoplasty, liposuction of the body and thigh and arm rejuvenation. As an acknowledged leader among plastic and reconstructive surgeons, Dr. Restifo has published over 40 articles on advanced surgical techniques in scientific journals. Dedicated to advancing the field of body plastic surgery, he has served on the review panel for the prestigious journal, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has also written extensively on breast reconstruction following mastectomy and on the innovative limited scar method for breast reduction surgery. Dr. Restifo has served as Assistant Professor and Director of Breast Surgery at the Yale University School of Medicine Section of Plastic Surgery. He has been a member of the faculties of both of the Atlanta Breast Surgery and Body Contouring Symposium and the Santa Fe Breast and Body Contouring Surgery Symposium. He has served as Chair of the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation Instructional Course Breast Subcommittee, as well as the American Board of Medical Examiners’ In-Service Committee.

 

Dr. Restifo was inducted in to the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha societies and graduated with highest honors from Harvard Medical School. He completed a General Surgery residency at Georgetown University Hospital and trained as a resident in Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. He is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in Biochemistry. Dr. Restifo is certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He holds the honor of being chosen by his peers as one of the“Best Doctors in America” consecutively every year since 1994. He has also been named multiple times as among “America’s Best Surgeons” by the Consumer Research Council of America as well as one of the “Top Doctors: New York Metro Area” as determined by the prestigious Castle Connolly group. He is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners; Fellow of the American College of Surgeons; Member of the American Society Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the New England Society of Plastic Surgeons, Connecticut State Medical Society, Connecticut Society of Plastic Surgery and the New Haven County Medical Society. For 10 years he served as Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Dr. Restifo is in private practice in Fairfield County and New Haven County, Connecticut.

 

Dr. Restifo lends his time and expertise to improve the lives of impoverished people through plastic and reconstructive surgery. As a member of INTERPLAST, a society dedicated to the sponsorship and funding of an international alliance of surgeons, he joined elite teams on missions to underdeveloped nations. He worked in the Amazon region of Brazil improving reconstructive breast surgery for cancer patients and teaching surgical techniques where refined plastic surgery procedures are not available to the public. Dr. Restifo recalls these experiences as an “exhilarating high point in his surgical career” and believes that the gratification experienced by restoring the quality of life to these patients will stay with him forever.
