One out of only a handful of dual fellowship trained retina and glaucoma surgeons in the world, Shareef Ahmed, M.D. specializes in treating complex vitreo-retinal disease with concurrent primary or secondary glaucoma. He has presented at international meetings and authored several works in national peer-reviewed journals on surgical techniques, eye infections, and characterizing new ocular diseases. He is actively involved in teaching new resident ophthalmologists and collaborating with other eye care professionals to further our knowledge of dangerous ocular conditions.

 

Dr. Ahmed earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Virginia and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He went on to complete his ophthalmology training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit where he also received advanced training in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma and retinal diseases. There he received awards for excellence in medical care and teaching. He was an associate member of the Henry Ford Department of Ophthalmology until joining OSM.
 

Dr. Ahmed is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Retina Specialists. He was elected a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society for his exemplary medical care and ethic. He actively participates in international medical mission work in underserved, third world countries. He feels strongly that a kind and supportive bedside manner is important when treating patients with potentially blinding eye disease.
